उत्तराखंड में मुसीबत का सबब बने गुलदारों की 12 साल बाद दिसंबर में होने जा रही गणना में वन महकमा पहली बार विद्यार्थियों का सहयोग लेने जा रहा है। राज्य के चीफ वाइल्डलाइफ वार्डन ने इस सिलसिले में सभी वन प्रभागों के डीएफओ से उनके क्षेत्र में स्थित ऐसे विश्वविद्यालयों व महाविद्यालयों की सूची मांगी है, जिनमें स्नातकोत्तर स्तर पर फॉरेस्ट्री विषय है। इन विवि और महाविद्यालयों से फॉरेस्ट्री के पांच-पांच विद्यार्थियों को गणना में शामिल करने का निर्णय लिया गया है। इससे पहले उन्हें प्रशिक्षण भी दिया जाएगा।
राज्य स्तर गुलदारों की आखिरी बार गणना वर्ष 2008 में हुई थी, तब यहां 2335 गुलदार थे। इसके बाद तमाम कारणों से गणना टलती रही। अब जबकि गुलदारों के आतंक से समूचा उत्तराखंड थर्रा रहा है और स्थानीय ग्रामीण इनकी संख्या में भारी बढ़ोतरी की आशंका जता रहे हैं तो वन महकमे ने गुलदारों की गणना कराने का निर्णय लिया है। दिसंबर में प्रस्तावित गणना के लिए वन प्रभाग स्तर पर ग्रिड तैयार किए जा रहे हैं।
इसके साथ ही वन महकमा इस बार राज्य के विवि और महाविद्यालयों में स्नातकोत्तर स्तर पर फॉरेस्ट्री की पढ़ाई कर रहे विद्यार्थियों को भी गुलदारों की गणना में साथ लेने जा रहा है। राज्य के चीफ वाइल्डलाइफ वार्डन जेएस सुहाग बताते हैं कि सभी डीएफओ से उनके क्षेत्र के ऐसे विवि व महाविद्यालयों की सूची मिलने के बाद प्रत्येक से फॉरेस्ट्री के कम से कम पांच-पांच छात्र चयनित किए जाएंगे। फिर इन्हें विभाग और भारतीय वन्यजीव संस्थान के माध्यम से प्रशिक्षण दिया जाएगा।
सुहाग के अनुसार इससे जहां गुलदारों की गणना के लिए मानव संसाधन की पूति हो सकेगी, वहीं फॉरेस्ट्री की पढ़ाई कर रहे विद्यार्थियों को वन्यजीवों की गणना का अनुभव मिलेगा। साथ ही वन एवं वन्यजीवों के संरक्षण में उनकी भागीदारी सुनिश्चित की जा सकेगी। बाद में इन विद्यार्थियों की मदद जनजागरण अभियान में भी ली जा सकती है।
