मसाला ब्रांड एमडीएच के मालिक ‘महाशय’ धर्मपाल गुलाटी का गुरुवार सुबह निधन हो गया है। वे 98 साल के थे। खबरों के मुताबिक, गुलाटी का पिछले तीन हफ्तों से दिल्ली के एक अस्पताल में इलाज चल रहा था। गुरुवार सुबह उन्हें दिल का दौरा पड़ा। उन्होंने सुबह 5:38 बजे अंतिम सांस ली। इससे पहले वे कोरोना से संक्रमित हो गए थे। हालांकि बाद में वे ठीक हो गए थे। पिछले साल उन्हें पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित किया गया था।
1947 में भारत आए, शरणार्थी शिविर में रहे:
‘दादजी’, ‘मसाला किंग’, ‘किंग ऑफ स्पाइसेज’ और ‘महाशयजी’ के नाम से मशहूर धरमपाल गुलाटी का जन्म 1923 में पाकिस्तान के सियालकोट में हुआ था। स्कूल की पढ़ाई बीच में ही छोड़ने वाले धर्मपाल गुलाटी शुरुआती दिनों में अपने पिता के मसाले के व्यवसाय में शामिल हो गए थे। 1947 में विभाजन के बाद, धर्मपाल गुलाटी भारत आ गए और अमृतसर में एक शरणार्थी शिविर में रहे।
दिल्ली के करोल बाग में पहला खोला पहला स्टोर:
फिर वह दिल्ली आ गए थे और दिल्ली के करोल बाग में एक स्टोर खोला। गुलाटी ने 1959 में आधिकारिक तौर पर कंपनी की स्थापना की थी। यह व्यवसाय केवल भारत में ही नहीं बल्कि दुनिया में भी फैल गया। इससे गुलाटी भारतीय मसालों के एक वितरक और निर्यातक बन गए।
वेतन का 90 फीसदी करते थे दान:
गुलाटी की कंपनी ब्रिटेन, यूरोप, यूएई, कनाडा आदि सहित दुनिया के विभिन्न हिस्सों में भारतीय मसालों का निर्यात करती है। 2019 में भारत सरकार ने उन्हें देश के तीसरे सबसे बड़े नागरिक सम्मान पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित किया था। एमडीएच मसाला के अनुसार, धर्मपाल गुलाटी अपने वेतन की लगभग 90 प्रतिशत राशि दान करते थे।
